The WKA RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series kicked off its 2015 season with the Iconic Edge Nationals this past weekend at the popular 103rd Street Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Florida, a longtime WKA national event venue that has hosted the past five Gold Cup openers.
Fifteen racers entered a very competitive Junior Pro Gas Animal Lite and Heavy divisions each day. Brand new this year to the Gold Cup Series is the Junior LO206 class which debuted seven drivers each day. The weekend kicked off with a special Junior Pro Gas Heavy 10-lap shootout race, which was postponed to Saturday after all the points races concluded due to rain on Friday late afternoon.
AB Motorsports racer Jason Alder scored the first win of the new season with a close victory over Maryland’s Zach Wells in the Pro Gas Lite feature. Nash Duyn, Josh Stark and Hunter Fox rounded out the top five.
In the first ever Junior LO206 feature race in the Gold Cup Series, Jason Alder crossed the finish line in second place after a controversial move by another driver at the start of the race. Jason backed up his Saturday Pro Gas Lite win by bolting on the Pro Gas Heavy win in Saturday’s Junior Heavy main. Alder wheeled his Bandit to his second win of the weekend over Maryland MGM racer Zach Wells.
Alder’s hot streak continued into Sunday with a pair of feature wins in both Pro Gas Lite and Heavy mains. Jason battled Matt Miller and Brian Van Cleve in both races but prevailed after all the laps were completed.
Videos of each of the feature races can be found on our YouTube channel.
Next up for the Gold Cup Series is June 5-7, 2015 at the Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, S.C.
