AB Motorsports again traveled from Maryland to Charlotte Motor Speedway to participate in Rounds 2 and 3 of the INEX/US Legend Winter Heat Series. These two rounds were raced on the brand new Road Course short track located inside of turn 2 of the main speedway.
“The weekend started out wet which hampered our ability to practice on the new track. We only got to get on the track three times and all three times the track was very slippery so we were not able to really test our setups” said Jason. The rain continued on and off all day Friday and into Saturday. The Saturday bandolero racing was postponed until Sunday.
Sunday was a very busy day with two rounds of practice, two heat races and two feature races. The sun came out and the track dried before the racing began. INEX was having issues with the timing system so all drivers were forced to draw a pill for their starting positions. Jason drew a 4th and a 5th starting position. During the Heat races, Jason finished P3 in the first heat race and had a mechanical problem during the second heat race finishing last.
The feature races were both raced as the sun was setting. Jason started the first feature race in second place after INEX flipped the first two rows. Jason got a great start at the drop of the green flag and while crossing the start/finish line on lap 2, the #90 of Wilk made contact with Jason causing him to spin into the infield. The Champion Plugs Fortinet bando suffered a bend front spindle causing a tire rub. Jason went on to finish 5th. The second feature Jason started in last due to the mechanical problem during the heat race. Jason again had a good start and quickly moved up to 4th after only the first lap and later worked his way up to third where he would ultimately finish.
Jason said, “Overall, I am very pleased with my weekend. I am not so pleased with our results but I think I am learning more and more the feel of these cars and I hope to improve my results during this series.”
The videos of both the heat and feature are posted on AB Motorsports YouTube channel here.
Jason’s next race will be Round 4 and 5 of the Winter Heat on January 16-17 which will be on the new road course long track configuration. Follow along on race Monitor and check our social media updates on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram throughout the weekend.
