07232016Team 77 seems to have hit their stride during the hot summer month of July. The AB Motorsports team competed in two races in July at the 3/8ths mile oval asphalt track in Shenandoah, Virginia with nearly a perfect record. Just two days before celebrating our nation’s independence, Jason lead Team 77 to their third pole position of the season. Starting on the front row for the feature, Jason wheeled his Champion Spark Plugs, Fortinet bandolero hitting his marks and turning very consistent laps. But it was not quite enough to capture the win in the caution free race. “I did everything I could to catch the 51 car but just couldn’t do it. He got a better start that I did at the drop of the green flag and we were running nearly the exact same lap times. I just couldn’t get enough of a run to try to pass him” said driver of Team 77.

Just three weeks later, on the weekend of July 23rd, Jason qualified P1 of 7 cars at Shenandoah Speedway. The car was handling very well in spite of the intense heat. Our Champion Spark Plugs were providing awesome horsepower all night! Jason was able to grab another pole position, his fourth of the season at Shenandoah Speedway. With the advantage of his starting position going into the feature, Jason focused on his start and restarts knowing this would be the key to winning.

The green #77 car got a great start at the drop of the green flag and didn’t waste any time turning laps. The competition was tough as the Cole Bruce (#31) and Bradley Wilson (#51) both battled hard to get to the front. The top three cars literally stayed in formation for the first six laps of the race. As the race continued to develop the #51 car dropped back a few car lengths but the #31 remained on Jason’s rear bumper. As the top three cars approached lapped traffic, Jason was able to use this to his advantage and pull a few car lengths away from the #31 and farther ahead of the #51. Over the next several lap the lead slowly eroded away.  With 5 laps to go, the #31 car closed the gap and passed Jason at the line.  However, on the very next lap, Jason executed a perfect "cross-over" move to get position and retake the lead. The AB Motorsports driver held onto the lead and won by a slim 0.270 seconds over Cole Bruce in the #31 car.

The Team 77 driver got to meet some of his fans at Shenandoah Speedway after his win. He passed out Champion #PartsMatter post cards promoting the sweepstakes and posed for pictures with some fans and spectators.

Thanks to Champion Spark Plugs and Federal-Mogul, Fortinet, Odyssey Battery, 2020 Teknology, Boca Bearing Company and Valvoline motor oils for helping Team 77 enjoy this awesome sport. We also appreciate all the work of our charity of choice, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
